Darke County Safety Council
Developing and maintaining a safe workplace is not an easy task. That is why local companies and the community make a combined effort to develop and maintain a safe workplace. They are accomplishing this task through Ohio Safety Councils, all of which have the same goal – to increase safety awareness.
Ohio has 80 safety councils with more that 8,000 members statewide. Safety councils are typically organized through Chambers of Commerce, trade and manufacturing associations, American Red Cross chapters, and other local safety-minded organizations.
The Safety Councils hold regular meetings to identify potential and existing safety problems. Speakers inform participants of new techniques, products and services, and provide knowledge on these topics. Safety Councils also sponsor seminars, plant tours, conferences and host discussions on relevant issues.
Along with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s Division of Safety & Hygiene, the safety councils direct a safety campaign throughout Ohio to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and disease. The companies with the best safety records during the year are honored at annual awards events.
These safety campaigns are offered to all companies, corporations, and individual employers in Ohio. Member companies are divided into groups according to business classifications, hazards of operation, and/or according to the number of employee hours worked.
