Recent Industrial Expansions
Midmark Corporation
2009 – Midmark Corporation acquired a healthcare manufacturer in India allowing them to better align their company in the global healthcare market.
Union City Medical Center
2009 – Wayne Hospital opens the Union City Medical Center bringing two new gynecologists and a family doctor to the Darke County area.
Beauty Systems Group
June 2008 – Beauty Systems Group, a beauty supply warehouse & distribution center, doubled the size of their facility, adding approximately 123,000 sq. ft. and 50-75 jobs over the next 3 years.
Wayne Hospital
April 2008 – Wayne Hospital began construction on a 40,000 sq. ft. expansion to their current main campus facility. Estimated completion date is January or February 2010.
The Andersons
February 2008 - The Andersons Marathon Ethanol LLC, finishes construction on a 110 million gallon ethanol plant just outside of Greenville, the largest facility of its kind in Ohio. The plant requires 40 million bushels of corn to operate and also produces 350,000 tons of distiller dried grains annually. This also brought about the widening of Sebring Warner Rd. and the repair of Jaysville St. Johns Rd.
Whirlpool Corporation
2008 – Whirlpool Corporation added a 327,000 square foot warehouse to their Greenville facility.
Armstrong Cabinets
2008 – Armstrong Cabinets builds a $2 million facility in Union City, OH to replace their former warehouse and distribution center that was destroyed by fire.
Tigereye Design
June 2007 – Tigereye Design, a union designer, supplier, and manufacturer of quality promotional items, built their 12,000 sq. ft. facility in the Greenville Industrial Park bringing 20-25 permanent and many seasonal jobs to the area.
Timmerman Truss, Inc.
April 2007 – Timmerman Truss, Inc. opens a 66,000 sq. ft. facility on 30 acres in the Greenville Industrial Park. This helped to retain 40 existing jobs and hopes to create 30-40 more over the next 3 years.
King’s Command Foods
2007 – King’s Command Foods, out of Kent, Washington, purchases the remaining portion of what was originally Whiteford Foods in Versailles. The company, which has been one of the largest meat processors in the U.S. Pacific Coast region, hopes to create 100 jobs.
Midmark Corporation
2007 – Midmark acquired a manufacturer of premium wood cabinetry, allowing them to provide the most complete offering of cabinets available to dental professionals.
Spartech Plastics
2007 – With the closing of plants in Michigan and Indiana, Spartech chose Greenville Industrial Park to build a new state-of-the-art facility while keeping its old building for a warehouse. This allowed Spartech to retain over 90 jobs and create 90-100 new jobs.
Codino’s Limited
Fall 2006 – Codino’s (Italian Foods) Limited out of New York purchases a facility in Versailles (formerly Whiteford Foods).
Buchy Food Service
February 2006 – Buchy Foods built a new 27,000 sq. ft. plant in the Greenville Industrial Park. This multi-generational company has been in business since 1878.
Retail & Service Expansions
In addition to growth in the industrial sector, Darke County is experiencing additional economic activity in the retail and service sector. The following is a list of several recent, sizable investments in the county.
Taco Bell
August 2009 - Taco Bell, a company which serves almost 37 million consumers each week, chose to expand their Greenville location by constructing an entirely new building near the restaurant's current location. The new facility will more than double the seating capacity and add a new production line, bringing approximately 10 new jobs to the area.
BTO Self Serve Yogurt
July 2009 - BTO Self Serve Yogurt opens a new store on Wagner Ave. in Greenville intruducing the new concept of allowing customers to create their own frozen treats and then pay by the ounce.
Artifacts Ink
June 2009 - Grand opening of Artifacts Ink on West Main Street in Greenville. This unique store offers scrapbooking & papercraft items and classes, as well as stamping and photo organizing assistance.
Barga Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Inc.
Summer 2009 - Barga Heating, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Inc. moves its operations from Vine St. to State Route 49 South in Greenville (the old Farm Fleet Building). The move took them from a 3,000 sq. ft. building and put them into 28,000 sq. ft. Along with the 10,000 sq. ft. being used for their services, Barga's will have spaces for rent in their new facility.
Sonic Drive-In
Summer 2008 – Sonic, the largest chain of drive-in restaurants in America, chooses Greenville as the location for the opening of a new facility.
Peebles Department Store
March 2007 – Peebles Department Store moves into an existing retail space on Wagner Avenue in Greenville bringing 8 new jobs to the area.
Hibbett’s Sporting Goods
February 2007 – Hibbett’s opens a new retail store in Greenville.
Greenville Snap Fitness
2007 – Greenville Snap Fitness moves into the old Eikenberry’s North building offering 24/7 exercise facilities to area members.
Walgreen’s
November 2006 – Walgreen’s opens a 13,650 square foot newly constructed facility on East Main Street in Greenville bringing 20-25 jobs to the area.
Lowe’s
April 2005 – Lowe’s Home Improvement brings over 100 jobs to the area when they build a new 93,000 sq. ft. retail store in Greenville on Wagner Avenue.
Romer’s Catering & Entertainment Facility
April 2005 – Romer’s Greenville location was purchased in historic downtown Greenville. Their high quality service and delicious food has given them a reputation that is well known throughout the area.
