Each year the Darke County Chamber of Commerce hold it’s Agriculture Appreciation Luncheon. As many know, agriculture is a major part of living in Darke County. We are ranked number 2 in the state of Ohio for total ag receipts and come in 1st and 2nd in corn production and hog production & livestock receipts respectively.

Our 2009 program included a speaker from the Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center (OARDC). Steven A. Slack, Ph.D., gave a very informative presentation regarding some of the projects being conducted by the OARDC, including dandy rubber, electrifying manure, and shapely tomatoes. Also, awards were presented for Service to Agriculture, Service to the Agriculture Community, and for milestones reached by area high school FFA students.

The Ag Appreciation Luncheon is the Chamber’s way of celebrating all of the hard work and dedication involved in making agriculture a success in our community. Next year’s event is scheduled for March 2010.
